5 Pro Tips For Minimal Design
This video is brought to you by fresh books. Have you ever wondered how designers make things so minimal and beautiful with not much on the page? It seems like they’ve got all the ways of doing it, all the answers, and they can just create something beautiful with not very much on the page. I’ve been getting this question a lot and people ask me, including just people around that I know. They wonder what minimalism is and how to get minimalistic design in graphic design. In this video, I’m going to be sharing with you five Pro Tips for minimalistic design.
1. Empty Space
This one’s a simple and everyone kind of knows that empty space is a huge part when it comes to minimalistic design. Empty space and using it correctly and justifiably is what’s going to make your design look even better when it’s minimalized. Empty space is there so you can focus on one part of it. If you have a page which is cluttered with things that you don’t need in there, like graphics or more text and typography, then it’s going to be hard for the viewer to really see what you’re talking about. Keeping that minimal and only focusing on that through the empty space is going to help you.
Empty space doesn’t need to be filled in all the time. Sometimes it’s part of the composition, and that is every time when it comes to minimalism. Knowing the frame and the dimensions of that frame and knowing where the space is is going to help you. Always limit yourself to the frame that you’re working in.
2. Only use the Bare Necessities
The bare necessities are the content and the message. You do not need arrows and lines if you don’t need them. Get rid of anything that doesn’t serve the purpose for the content of the design. Use the design itself, whether it’s typography or illustration, to create the boundaries and leading lines.
3. Balance
Keeping your design balanced is important. If you’re just starting out in graphic design and don’t know how to keep your work balanced, here’s a couple of tips to help you balance out your work. Keep your lines and your letters and your words justified to the left to make it look neater and easier to read. Aim for symmetry and use hierarchy.
4. Use One Font Family
Using a simple yet impactful font family can make your work more simplistic and impacting. Find typefaces with multiple weights to create hierarchy and different areas in your design.
5. Use Grids
Using grids in minimalistic design is important to keep things consistent. Grids help keep everything in line and make your work look more professional. Learn how to use grids to make your work easier and look better.
