Each logo will serve as a learning opportunity for taking your own logo design to the next level using the same principles. Let’s dive into the first logo!
Spice Logo Redesign
We found this logo on Reddit and immediately saw its potential. However, there were a few minor tweaks that we believed would take it to the next level. The typeface used, Brandon Grotesque, seemed to be a bit off. The overall concept was great with the flame and red color, but the placement of the flame on the ‘P’ and the type choice needed attention. So, how did we go about redesigning it?
Adjusting Typeface
We decided to use a wider, bolder font like Gotham Ultra to make the text stand out and have more impact. After selecting the new font, we duplicated the text and outlined it to gain more control and flexibility. Then, we ungrouped the text to work on each letter individually.
Adding the Flame
We wanted to incorporate the flame into the logo in a way that was visually appealing and made sense. After creating a flame shape and adjusting its negative space, we added it on top of the ‘I’ in ‘Spice.’ This placement allowed the flame to stand out and contribute to the overall design of the logo. The result was a refreshed and more impactful logo that would look great on spice bottles or any branding material.
Groovy Orange Logo Redesign
Next, let’s take a look at the Groovy Orange logo. While the company may not be the focus at this point, the logo presents an opportunity to demonstrate logo design principles. The existing logo features an ultra-minimal design with the combination of an orange and a ‘G’ along with a leaf element. We believed that with some tweaks, this logo could be improved significantly.
Adding Detail to the Icon
We decided to create a circular shape and use it as the base for the logo. Using the same color and making it a stroke, we brought the circle to 70% size to create an effective base for the new design. Then, we added a guide to help us cut the circle at the right points to form a ‘G’ at the bottom of the icon. Additionally, we added a rectangle to provide more detail to the design and make it less minimalistic. This led to a more polished and defined logo that read clearly as ‘Groovy Orange.’
These logo redesigns illustrate the power of making subtle tweaks to take an existing design to the next level. By adjusting typefaces, adding or refining elements, and reconsidering placement, you can breathe new life into your logos.
