A Graphic Designer’s Review of the M1 iPad Pro π
Introduction
The M1 chip is now in the iPad Pro and I have got the iPad Pro here today. This is the graphic designer’s review of the new 12.9-inch M1 iPad Pro 2021. Every year when Apple releases a new iPad, I go ahead and buy it and review it for you. I use the iPad Pro nearly every day for work, for sketching logos, for doing hand lettering, for taking notes, and for it to be a place where I am very productive even when I’m not near a computer. But the real question is, if youβre a designer or a creative, whether you use Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Lightroom, or any editing software on the iPad, should you make the purchase? Should you upgrade the iPad? Today, I will answer this question.
Design
The design of the iPad is very similar, if not exactly the same as last year’s model. The same sort of camera setup, the same dimensions, and the same bezels on the screen. The thickness is actually slightly thicker, which is because of a new battery they’ve put in. The silver version that I opted for also brings a bit of a difference from the space grey from last year.
Power
The iPad having the M1 chip is huge. The M1 chip was designed by Apple and it’s in the iMac, the new one in the MacBooks, and it is ridiculously fast. So, the performance of the iPad has seen incredible upgrades, now having an eight-core CPU and an eight-core GPU with 40% faster graphics.
Screen
The 12.9-inch Liquid Retina XDR display delivers a 1 million to 1 contrast ratio which is HDR. The brightness is also increased, making it super bright and suitable for viewing content in HDR. The mini-LEDs increase the contrast on the screen, giving you a better viewing and creating experience.
Connectivity
The iPad now has an option for 5G and the port at the bottom is now Thunderbolt, allowing faster data transfer. The iPad still fits with the Magic Keyboard and uses the version 2 of Apple Pencil.
Conclusion
As a creative or designer, the M1 iPad Pro offers significant improvements in performance, display, and connectivity. The power of the M1 chip and the enhanced screen make it a compelling choice for those who rely on graphic design and editing software. Whether you should buy this or upgrade will depend on your specific needs and the level of performance you require, but the M1 iPad Pro definitely sets a new standard for mobile creative work. Overall, it’s a fantastic tool for any graphic designer or creative professional.
