In this blog, I will delve into the features and performance of the Macbook Pro M1 from the perspective of a professional graphic designer. From its speed and processing power to its display quality and compatibility with design software, I will provide insights and recommendations for anyone looking to invest in this new and innovative device. Let’s explore how the Macbook Pro M1 can elevate your graphic design work!
Introduction
I have been using both Mac and PC for my design career over the past 10 years. I primarily used Mac, but a couple of years ago, I switched to PC when I decided to work from home and play video games on a powerful computer. However, recently I moved back to Mac as I find it to be more productive. Apple has recently released their new M1 MacBook Pro and M1 Mac Mini, which has been a game-changer for many people.
My Background
If you don’t know who I am, I’m Will Patterson, a brand identity designer who creates YouTube videos about the business of design and how to do designs.
First Impressions
I purchased the M1 MacBook Pro 13-inch base model with eight gigs of RAM. I will be discussing whether it’s worth getting this new MacBook Pro for designers and if there are any shortcomings.
Design
The design of the MacBook is similar to the previous models, with the same keycaps, keys, and a touch bar that is not very useful for designers. However, the main difference is the M1 chip, which is a game-changer for performance.
Performance
The M1 chip has allowed for significant improvements in performance. When using the MacBook Pro, I was surprised to find that it remained cool even when running applications like Chrome, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. The M1 chip hardly gets hot, making it a powerful and efficient tool for designers.
App Compatibility
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and other design applications run smoothly on the M1 MacBook Pro. Additionally, Adobe has released a beta version of Photoshop with M1 compatibility. The performance of these applications on the M1 MacBook Pro has exceeded my expectations.
Power and Affordability
Despite the common perception that Macs are expensive, the M1 MacBook Pro is a reasonably priced option for designers. The power and performance it offers surpasses what one would expect from a laptop in its price range.
Conclusion
The M1 MacBook Pro has proven to be a powerful and reliable tool for designers, offering excellent performance and compatibility with design applications. Its affordability makes it a valuable investment for anyone in the design industry.
