How I Designed The Apian Way Logo! (Radial Repeat Feature)

Today, I want to share with you my experience of designing the logo for Apian Way, a new company specializing in honey-based products. I was tasked with creating a unique and eye-catching logo that would represent the brand’s commitment to quality and eco-friendly practices. Designing The Apian Way Logo

Hey guys, what’s going on? It’s me Will Patterson, and happy new year 2021! Let’s hope this year is going to be better, and to make it better, I’m going to be showing you how I designed the logo for a company called The Apian Way. It was a cosmetics company, and I showed you this in my client look back video last week. You guys loved that video, so I thought it would be really cool if I showed you how I actually went in Illustrator and designed this logo. Using the Radial Repeat Tool

So here’s the logo that I worked on. It’s in its normal form with just paths. Now, a lot of you guys may know how to do this, but some of you may not, and there’s a few ways of going around it. But we’ve got a new way today, and that is with the radial repeat tool that has just been added from the iPad into normal Illustrator on the desktop.

This logo is meant to be a b or something like a b, but I didn’t want to go ahead and create a b logo because that’s very generic. Also, some people are scared of bees, so I wanted to create something more elegant and high-class. After a lot of sketching and brainstorming, which you can see in the video link down below, I came up with this symmetrical bug-like but elegant logo.

Creating Patterns and Designs

The way that I did it was with a circle, brought out a perfect circle, and duplicated it. Then, I used the pathfinder options to intersect the shapes and create the desired shape. But the new feature I want to show you is the radial repeat tool in Illustrator.

If we highlight the shape and go up to object and down to repeat, we can go to radial. Now, when we do this, we get this cool-looking radial repeating of that shape. We’ve got these controls on the side to create different designs out of this. This new feature makes it easier to create cool designs and patterns for your logo.

The Old School Way

The way I first did it was working on one side and then mirroring the shapes. I used the reflect tool to mirror the shapes and create the symmetrical design for the logo. This method is very precise and helps create a symmetrical logo design.

So that’s how I designed the Apian Way logo using the radial repeat feature and other tools in Adobe Illustrator. The new updates and features have made it easier to create intricate and symmetrical designs for logos and other graphics.
