Pricing Design Work in 2021 – Free Workshop
Whenever i’m around you baby Everybody all right here we go how’s it going everyone you should be able to see me get my monitor out the way we are here today to do a bit of a workshop but first of all like any other time i’m with neo me so say hello Hello how’s it going i think she’s doing all right but today we’re doing something different it’s good to see so many people in chat nobody can you see the chat i can see the chat cool we’ll do something a bit different today we’re going to be actually doing like a workshop Um and i’ve got people who are hopefully going to be joining the zoom meeting so the way it’s going to go today is obviously we’re going to be talking about this so how to price design work in 2021 i’m going to be going on uh and explaining a bit more now for anyone Who doesn’t know there is a zoom call so you have to get into the creative insider’s discord and so you can be on that zoom call um and that’s incredibly designed for anyone who wants to ask questions anyone who wants to sort of be a part of this and It was sort of like a way of me being able to communicate with you you don’t have to have cameras on we’ve got ricky and leo lucas in the zoom call but you can ask questions during this directly to me so everyone else can hear so it’s more like a real workshop So this is a free workshop and i’m excited you know me i am i am we’ve got questions zoom call workshop yes so there is a creative insider’s discord which i shall just quickly link very quickly if i can and then i’m going to get stuck into this presentation that i’ve got and We’ve got mike pickett in the house as well which is great good to see you mike so get into this discord when you’re in there join it um you don’t worry about the roles yet i’ll explain that later and then once we’ve done that we can get on with this presentation That i want to show you here which will be fun and interesting for you guys let’s see who’s all in here we’ve got ricky and lewis still um so anyone in the discord who has the zoom link come in i’ll be asked answering questions soon um but i think There’s a way that you can raise your hand in the chat so just say i’ve got a question in the chat whenever you want and when i say chat the zoom chat all right first time i’ve ever done this so we’re doing it differently sounds good right okay so the first thing We’re going to be discussing i want to turn off the music now actually because i don’t particularly think the music is quite helpful so what i’m going to be talking about is again pricing your design work in 2021 now some people are probably under the illusion that i do All the pricing when it comes to our design work and everything else and that used to be the case but i’ve got a wife called naomi who’s been before we became an agency she was like helping me with all like the communications and stuff with people online is that what i would Suggest you did yes it was like a funny transition time in between i was still working a real job i suppose you call it at that point um and using sort of my spare time or afternoons off to help will find clients basically yeah then that was Her sort of job and now when we became an agency naomi has been the one that clients will talk to the most and i do the work so um she does a lot of the pricing but that’s not because i’m bad at it it’s because obviously Pricing is an art and that’s why we’re all here today for this sort of workshop pricing itself is an art form and the biggest questions we always get is how do you price your artwork or creativity or design work so i’m going to be talking about that Today it’s good to see leo lucas and antonio in the zoom call you should all be muted and i’ll ask to meet you when we’re taking questions so first of all advantages to pricing with time so there’s two different ways of pricing the first one Is time and that means you know you get a logo design or a project maybe a brochure logo or anything and you price based upon time now i’m going to be talking about the advantages and disadvantages of these because they’re quite huge would you say near me yeah Yeah so pricing um in time has always been something i’ve i’ve always stayed away from um simply because it’s not economical for me in logo design and branding but also because the main thing is getting paid for spending more time on a project isn’t necessarily true but it can be True in some times so the advantages are obviously you get paid more for spending time in a project are you okay near me there’s just so many doctor who’s in the chat we’ve got the fifth doctor the second doctor the tenth doctor the fourth doctor and the eleventh doctors just said no I’m here too why is so doctors in the chat this is weird doctor price okay so two num number two there’s less risk of not being paid when you’re doing pricing with time and simply because when a client wants you to stop working on something they can stop you working And you still get paid for the hourly rate a lot of people ask us when we’re doing like desire work or whatever prospective clients will normally say what is your rate like what is your hourly rate and we have to explain to them obviously we don’t do hourly rates Um we generally go ahead and do the project pricing yeah we do we don’t do our i don’t think we’ve ever done hourly unless you did at the very start no the only times i’ve done like hourly pricing is probably on live streams of different companies but that’s not to do with like Client work so there’s less risk of not being paid because people who work per hour generally cost less because if you’re hiring someone at like 500 an hour and then you hiring someone else at a thousand dollars an hour and the company will then decide other person will then decide that you Probably don’t want to be paying that much out so they’ll just stop you and go for someone else so that’s one of the advantages less risk of not being paid sometimes get paid for more time on a project so when you spend more time on a project This is an advantage if the project is going to take a long long time and you’re getting paid let’s say weekly and this project’s going to take like six months it’s easier for the client to pay you every week for the time we spent on that project Than it is for them to pay the lump sum and the reason again is just economics and cash flow but the problem is with spending time uh with pricing or pricing with time is that your client will not want you to spend loads of time on your Project they will want you to be as efficient as possible and therefore penalizing you for doing a good job at a really good time frame so that is like with time so that’s a pricing based on your time what about the next one which is a pricing with Value so this is one that’s been talked about a lot and the first time i
