Ever since the iPad drawing apps have changed massively they’ve been upgraded so many times I’ve done a video on procreate five and some of the main differences and some of the cool new features that got in there but the main difference and the most exciting feature has to be animation with onion skinning I’ve been using and testing procreate five beta for a few weeks now and it’s actually insane what you can do with it you can animate using onion skinning this means that no longer do your illustrations or your hand lettering or your designs have to be static they can Be moving and they can animate now in procreate for we were able to animate but it wasn’t as intuitive as it is now now we have something called animation assist in this video I’m going to be showing you all about animation assist and what you can do with it and Basically give you a baseline preview of what you can do with hand lettering and how you can make a hand lettering sort of move and do different things keep in mind though procreate fab is still in beta so some of the features that I show you in this video might change when Procreate five officially launches and gets onto your iPad and I’ve got a lot of comments asking when the release date was and I don’t know the exact release date all that has been said is that procreate five will be released before the end of the year so 2019 which isn’t Long away so any further ado let’s go take a look at procreate 5s animation in a full detail.

Getting Started with Animation in Procreate 5

you guys and have you done all this in procreate five there supposed to be some stippling here and it’s not finished yet at all but what I wanted to do was basically show you how You can animate some drip effects coming from here I want the drip effects to sort of come from the background off the lettering and then basically just drip off and then come back up and down like so so thing this will not cool if it’s All drippy so what I’m going to do is zoom in first then I’m gonna go to merge all my layers like I’ve got here so this is just one layer and it’s a background layer of a color and what I’m going to do this layer is tap on it and you’ll See that I’ve got this thing here selected called animation foreground I want me an animation to come back so what I’m going to do is cite animation for ground and it should have a little tick there once you’ve done it the next step is I’m going to go to my Settings up here and I’m going to go ahead and find animation assist which is improv Ince’s down here when you click it you’ll get this little bar at the bottom which is the main feature of animation assistant next I’m going to choose my brush that I like to use so I’m gonna go over to my ink brushes wherever they are Studio pen ink and I’ve got this brush going on here now that’s way too large so I’m going to bring it down make sure we can get some nice thickness isn’t that cool so what I’m going to start do is just animate These little basically drips coming down so first of all I’m going to make sure that we’ve got a new layer selected for a frame so I’m going to do this and we’re going to just go ahead and bring in a tiny bit of this into there brewing This here and you can see that this is all going behind the artwork which is nice as well we’re going to find all the place where I want my drips to start because we’re on frame 1 now animation assist is pretty easy to use because Each layer is a frame so I want to use this as like a cool way of creating these sort of like cool drips if that makes sense next I’m going to do is press here when I press here you’ll see that these drips have gone a bit of a baked and that’s Because we’ve got onion skinning on you can see the opacity right there I’m going to go and put my onion skins to one and so it doesn’t confuse me from the previous one what onion skinning allows you to do is to see exactly what your last frame was so you can reference It so for here I know that I want my next frame to be sort of here like so and I know I want this one sort of do the same and I know this one needs to be a bit lower as well and I’m just making sure that these edges are pretty smooth Because I went it’s like wet you can see that you don’t get any sharp edges we just do this all the way around like so and I’m just using the studio brush with a bit of streamline on it it doesn’t have to be perfect this the cool thing About this effect and I’m no animator by the way I suck at animating there’s just something that I found that was pretty cool for your lettering projects all right and then the next that is to do it again now I want to give you a tip so Instead of just pressing it again like that I’m making it go into onion skinning and giving you another frame if you wanted to duplicate that layer so you didn’t want to draw over it again and again and again all you have to do and this is very clever by the way it’s Just to hold down this what happens then is it duplicates that layer again so you don’t have to draw over it so it’s a very quick and easy way of making sure you don’t get a duplicate but for this effect I am literally just drawing them in Again until the very end so do it again we come down further again and with this time we’re going a bit further away animation is very fun but sometimes you need to know about the way that it works and then we’re going to preview it and drip effects are really easy animation Today obviously you’re just extending the drips it’s what I make sure I’ve got that in the last frame you added you can see what I did that I can go through my frames like this on this playhead all right let’s just preview this so fast so it’s growing a bit strange because I Haven’t got these going straight down so the reason why that’s happening is because it’s like literally just one frame and you can see here and we can I bring this and keep doing this all the way through so I’m going to just speed this process up I think as I go through these And now you can see as I’m going through this that I’m basically cutting off the edges because I want it to solve I come away from the artwork as well so I’m just extending them like sir and then bringing them down even more so and making sure the lines are still quite Thin and we can go through these frames and edit them later this is just one way that I’ve learned to animate and again I will say I’m a no animator I’m pretty bad at it to be honest we can keep previewing this to see how it’s going
