iPad Giveaway! The Designers Review Of The iPad Air 2020
Apple has once again brought out a refreshed model of the ipad air and this time it looks like the ipad pro which is kind of strange it actually feels like the ipad pro same thinness it’s got the same speaker grilles aluminium nice screen a bit smaller than what I’m used to. I’m used to the big one second generation apple pencil and one question I had as a designer who works on the ipad nearly daily for drawing for just checking the internet and using now adobe illustrator is it going to be any different will it be slower than the ipad pro that I’m used to using which cost over twice as much is it worth just sticking to the ipad air. This video is brought to you by paperlike so here is my graphic designers review of the ipad app stick around to the end to work out how you can win yourself this ipad i’m going to be giving it away to one of you lucky subscribers.
Design and Features
First of all, when you notice it the actual design of the ipad looks just like the normal ipad pro it’s a great design the only things that we see are different is obviously the color choices are a bit brighter so that’s assuming apple are making this for everyone it looks pro with the actual body but it doesn’t look pro with the actual color although the lime green color is pretty nice we’ve also got the second generation Apple pencil two which is always good because we don’t have to plug in our apple pencils at the bottom not only do we have that there’s no lightning port on here they’ve actually made this more pro than you think there’s a usbc port at the bottom for where you charge it which obviously means faster charging but then now you can plug in different dongles so like you know a hard drive a memory stick and one of the coolest features that they’ve brought out is touch id on the ipad at the top so at the button at the top it has got a touch id scanner and it works super well the button feels nice now if i’m talking about the overall look the way that it feels is kind of like an ipad pro i guess the smaller version i don’t really use the smaller versions of them simply because i’m drawing a lot so i like to have a lot of screen real estate to be drawing on my ipad but it does feel nice and comfortable in the hands because of the squared off edges which are slightly rounded so it makes it a lot easier to hold and to really you know just be reading the newspaper checking out youtube videos and having good content consumption one thing you will notice probably the first is that the bezels are actually larger inside the ipad app but to me that’s not an issue because if i’m going to be handling this ipad with my thumbs on the side you know having those bezels out don’t particularly bother me even if i am drawing.
Performance and Functionality
After opening up the ipad and playing around with some of the features, I downloaded the three apps that I normally use and these three apps I would suggest are staples of the design industry at the minute the first one being procreate 5x illustrator on ipad and vectornator procreate has been working on ipads ever since even before the ipad pro came out i had it when i had my first ipad air before the apple pencil and ever since then they’ve been updating the platform and the app to make it easier and make it faster for people to draw and to do cool things so it’s no surprise that procreate actually works really well on this ipad i downloaded my brushes put them into my ipad and basically just went around playing with it and seeing how it felt i don’t see any really lapses in lag or anything all i do know is that as the document sort of can build up it won’t be running at the same performance as the ipad pro simply because the ipad pro is generally faster than most laptops now but the one thing that was strange to me especially as a logo designer is illustrator on the ipad now obviously it works really well on the ipad pro so i had my my thoughts my concerns about it being in ipad air how is it going to run will it run well well it it did it it ran just like it did on the ipad pro and i think that’s because obviously it’s a very new app so they’re going to be updating it and making it better for each device i saw no differences in adobe illustrator on this ipad which costs a heck of a lot less than on the ipad pro the only reason why now i would like the ipad pro with illustrator is for the biggest screen now if you’re drawing all day you want to be using that big screen you want to be going ahead and playing around with the apple pencil and doing drawing if you’re doing hand lettering again you might use this if you have small hands but if you have big shrek hands like myself you want to have a bit more of a substantial piece of paper or A wider canvas the ipad also has smart connectors at the bottom so you can use the magic case that you can on the ipad pro which is pretty cool the one that i have is too big for this and i’m not buying a 300 pound case for this video But it works and that’s a really cool feature to have for anyone who’s doing drawing the one thing you may see as a big difference between the ipad air and the ipad pro is the screen refresh rate the ipad air has a screen refresh rate of 60 i believe and the ipad pro has a screen refresh rate of 120 hertz which makes it a lot smoother and i really took that for granted until i saw this so actually moving around my artwork on here isn’t as smooth but is it a deal breaker i don’t particularly think so i think it feels just like an ipad pro but smaller and a bit chunkier the apple pencil is just as responsive but unfortunately just like in every ipad when you’re drawing on the ipad pro with an apple pencil it’s drawing on glass and it feels awful that’s why paperlike are sponsoring this video now you know drawing on your ipad pro without a paper like feels nasty it just does not feel good it literally feels like plastic meeting glass and it’s not a nicest feeling in the world but not only then when you’re doing calligraphy especially myself on the ipad your hand can stick to the screen it’s not as it’s not as free-flowing as paper so a way to combat all these issues with the screen i always use a paper like and i’ve been using paper like for many years now ever since i think my first ipad pro i’ve been using a paperlike screen protector it feels a lot better comfortable and more natural and sounds good when you’re using it because of paperlike’s technology in their screen protectors the screen still looks good when you’re viewing your content on it but it just feels that much better to draw on and if you’re anything like me you don’t like drawing on glass if you’d Like to get your own paperlike screen protector please visit the link down below in the description the only issues that i’m really having with the ipad air are all centered around that screen refresh i don’t think having the most powerful cpu or chip set in here is going to make it even better…
