LG 5K UltraFine Review – Is It Worth It?
Hey guys oli here so I’ve been using that LG 5k ultra fine display for about a month or two now it’s been out I’ll see a lot longer it’s been out since last year and I just wanted to give you my thoughts see what I thought of it.
Design and Build
From a designer’s point of view, the design of the LG 5K UltraFine display may not win any awards. It is relatively thick and basic looking compared to other displays on the market. The monitor features adjustable height and tilt, but lacks the ability to swivel, which can be inconvenient for those using multiple displays. While the stand is made from metal, the rest of the display is made of plastic, which may be disappointing considering the price.
Connectivity and Ports
The display features four ports on the back, including one for connecting it directly to a MacBook. This allows for a single cable connection for both display and charging. However, the limited number of ports may be a drawback for some users, as the display lacks additional I/O options such as extra USB ports, a headphone jack, or an SD card slot.
Display Quality
When it comes to the 5K display itself, it offers excellent quality for design, photo, and video work. However, some users may find that it does not quite match up to the 5K display on a 5K iMac in terms of color calibration and sharpness. Some users may also notice a slight yellow tinge on the LG display at the beginning, though this may become less noticeable over time.
Recommendation
While the LG 5K UltraFine display offers impressive quality, the high price tag of $1,300 may make it a less viable option for some users. Oli suggests considering refurbished options or exploring alternative displays such as the Dell P2715Q, which offers comparable quality at a lower price point.
Overall, while the LG 5K UltraFine display has its merits, users should carefully consider their budget and specific needs before making a purchase.
