The Logo Design Process
A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to design a logo for a coffee shop in Zagreb, Croatia. The challenge was to create a brand for a coffee shop known as “The Worst Coffee in Town.” In this article, I will take you through the start-to-finish process of designing a logo for this coffee shop.
Idea Generation
While in Zagreb, I started sketching some initial ideas on an Asus laptop using Photoshop. I focused on creating a vintage logo type as I felt comfortable working in that style. I wanted the logo to have a hand-drawn look to reflect the hipster vibe of the coffee shop.
Using the Asus Zenbook Duo
The Asus Zenbook Duo provided me with the tools I needed to bring my ideas to life. The dual screens and stylus functionality allowed me to sketch and refine my designs with ease. The task groups feature also helped me stay organized and efficient in my workflow.
Creating the Brand
Upon returning from Croatia, I further developed my ideas and focused on creating a cohesive brand identity. I experimented with different typefaces and compositions, aiming to capture the essence of the coffee shop in a single stamp.
Breaking a design rule, I incorporated a script font within the logo type to create a sense of hierarchy and contrast. I wanted the name “Worst Coffee” to stand out and be the focal point of the logo.
Refining the Logo
As I continued to work on the logo, I revisited the hand-lettered design I created in Croatia. I decided to vectorize it and refine the aesthetic to align with the hipster branding of the coffee shop. I intentionally kept the design slightly imperfect to stay true to the concept of “The Worst Coffee in Town.”
After simplifying the design and removing excess anchor points, I achieved a vintage look that resonated with the overall theme of the coffee shop. The final logo combined elements of hand lettering and script fonts to create a unique and recognizable brand mark.
