subreddit i’m currently working on a Personal project where i’m rebranding the national park service i just want to get some advice on whether the logo i’m working on is worth moving forward with many thanks in advance so i’m guessing the national park i’ve heard about this it’s an american thing where you you have like national park rangers i’m Guessing this is the original uh logo design which yeah you can see i understand it it’s a badge in the shape of that you’ve got a lot of stuff it’s more of like information in there the actual shape of the outline works really well it’s just a bit yeah it’s a bit Bit detailed okay so over here is your version of it now over the past few weeks i’ve been berated in the comments some may say because people are saying well you always talk about how logo designs should be simple but then you’re not critiquing the ones that aren’t simple enough well Let me just further explain there is a balance between simplicity and functionality it’s like a tightrope and in logo design there’s not one rule that’s it it’s a balance can you hear that screaming at me for example when we look at this logo here we know this is National park service it’s got the i would suggest an iconic look to it although i don’t see this logo very often because i’m from the united kingdom and over here we’ve got the national park service written on the right with like a very simplistic emblem with a similar shape now the shape is Really nice i like it i think it’s good the stuff in the middle i do not understand this logo here is very illustrative you know when it’s on someone’s shirt when they’re walking around you can understand who they are over here on the right it’s very abstract this is where you’ve got to Think about whether what you’re doing is actually you know functional or are you just sticking by a rule of it being simple now on the one on the right obviously i like the look i like the typography used here aside from the s but what we’ve got here is a classic Example of over simplification i think i don’t mind simplification i i think this logo over here could be simplified very easily you know just by doing what you’ve done on the outside here which is a very nice balance but again this is overly simplified to the point of where It’s become abstract and also there’s details in there that don’t make functional sense or any sense and i don’t mind that as long as it works well but the problem is when you just have this icon it to me would not look like national park service it looks more like A guitar plectrum with a funky design on it obviously this is very simple and a lot of designers may suggest yeah it’s good because it’s simple no it’s simple but does it fit within the national park service has it met the brief and that’s where it becomes ambiguous well done Though you’ve got a nice sort of typography here i like the colors that you use for this it could be a bit darker i would have stuck with the same brown yellow color that they’ve got over here this orange brown but i like the fact that you’ve consolidated the frame Of this emblem here let’s see what you guys have said about this super clean i like your font choice i feel like it could use a bit of rough texture on the badge if the words for the national service were not there i would assume it was a person doing a Sport activity so this is where the biggest improvements can be made i can see a tree and a sun you can see a tree oh okay that’s supposed to be a tree now this is where it could become interesting actually i know i’m spending A lot of time on this one but if you just mirrored this if this line was centered down here which it’s not you can see it’s not actually in the center if this was centered and you reflected this over to this side it would look i i would suggest it would look better Because that’s better simplification you’ve simplified it we’ve added a lot of things like a sun either way if you want to learn more about this design go ahead and go to the subreddit and check out the comments the next one is a moose chocolate milk packaging logo quick Exercise producing this let me know your thoughts so this just quick exercise so i guess there’s no further context but that’s okay can i say i like the typography it fits it’s got that playful it’s rounded that’s what we like rounded type i don’t understand this now the problem with This is it looks like something it shouldn’t this is where the designers need to make sure that it does not look like it shouldn’t i can’t say it but make sure of it i like the packaging it looks very nice very nice and clean putting things on mock-ups can really help but again Don’t do that this next one hi my dad asked me to refine his company’s logo theme is pretty technical because the company operates on pneumatics what do you think right what’s pneumatics pneumatics is a technology of compressed air i think i’m saying it right kind of makes sense what is the name of The company awn but that’s where it becomes a bit difficult because i think that’s awn but it kind of looks like the sony veyo logo although it’s a nice design it works well i think the colors in there could be different i don’t i think you should be black and White i don’t know about this orange i would have put white within that orange there but i mean it’s it’s it’s nice the only issues that i have of it is if we go straight in you see this it’s up straight and this one is on an angle which i don’t particularly mind Until the thickness hasn’t been changed you can see you’ve added circles down here and this is not a proper curvature here so it kind of looks disjointed it looks like there’s too much compression inside of those joints for me and personally the service part because it’s not been turned correctly but it’s been Widely tracked then it kind of doesn’t make sense i would just scale that in a bit more nice try though dude well done before i go into the next one i just want to thank the sponsor of this video wally walling is a visual workspace to organize all your work and plan new Projects in collaborative walls it’s super simple to use for both you and your client and probably the best thing you can do is you can create mood boards you can have a brief in there all of the different sections
