Starting as an Entrepreneur

Hey Ryan how’s it going good Julian are you yeah good thanks yeah so you’ve obviously set up some SEO businesses are performing really well right now what inspires you to start your own SEO agency and become an entrepreneur in the first place I just couldn’t work for other people I uh when I had graduated college back 2008 2009 I took a job in Consulting big consulting company Accenture then Deloitte and I quickly realized after being there that it wasn’t going to be the career path for me I felt like I was gonna Fall asleep when I was 22 23 years old and wake up and be 50 and still be doing the same thing just for a little bit more money and a little bit more responsibility and uh it just didn’t sit well with me and I was never the entrepreneurial type I was never like The lemonade stand whatever garyvee um I’m an introvert by Nature risk scares me you know I was always taught to go to college get a good job you know etc etc um but as soon as I got on to the start of working there I I couldn’t do it so I Just started looking for other ways to make money I started Googling like ways to make money online and I stumbled across basically the infancy of what internet marketing 2.0 is today SEO social media marketing and I just became obsessed and I started learning about it and eventually Building my own sites and blogging and over time I was able to monetize it through some affiliate stuff and then some e-commerce stuff and then taking on clients as a consultant and uh an agency and that was that was pretty much it I was Off to the Races

Dealing with Client Work

So when it came to like working for other people I know obviously you didn’t like the sort of nine-to-five life did you find it hard taking on client work as well because I know a lot of seos I know struggle with that and just prefer to do affiliate marketing for example Um yeah I mean people are sorry there’s a bug in my face people or people are wild card right whether it’s your own staff or clients um you have to deal with moods you have to do with deal with things that have absolutely nothing to do with you you Have to deal with expectations which can be challenging um but I mean earlier in my career I struggled with it of course you know managing client expectations getting the results uh that they felt like they were paying for uh but now you know that I’ve been doing this for so long Um and I really really understand the game I’m able to zoom all the way out and look at the business those those types of things don’t bother anymore you know like every client that I work with now understands that marketing is a risk that there’s no guarantees and that my Job I can’t guarantee results but my job is to put them in the best position to succeed and they have to meet me halfway with a lot of things right um so those things don’t bother me anymore honestly at the end of the day I don’t really give a to be Completely blunt honest with you um you know they’re they’re paying me for a job and like me and my team are gonna do the best of our ability um and we usually do you know and then if they get upsetter if they if I have To deal with them then I deal with them it’s just part of running a business there’s there’s there’s always going to be fires that you have to put out and that includes affiliate businesses right I mean Amazon is changing terms of services non-stop like they mess with Your income uh on a regular basis you know and that’s not something that I can deal with I like to be more in control um and when it comes to people-based service businesses Consulting agencies you have a lot more control you have a lot more control of your offer you have A lot more control over what you can make there’s really no cap and no limit there’s agencies and Consultants out there doing close to billions of dollars in Revenue right if you if you execute it right so um I even as an introvert this is this is the business model for me and there’s a lot of a lot of positives there’s obviously a lot of negatives but there’s a lot of positives to me that outweigh the negatives running this type of business and I feel like I’ll always be in the in the services based business especially as we See things come up with like AI which I’m sure we’ll talk about today right yeah you know at the end of the day what I do is I sell to other humans and it doesn’t matter if it’s Google in between that’s the medium if it’s a Billboard if it’s a radio spot if it’s a Facebook ad or if it’s an AI chatbot right like my job is to sell to other humans using the best mediums available right um and that will be protected I mean Consultants have been around since free civilizations right coming into Consult to help people with farming and to help people with finance and help people learn all these different things right so it’s a people-to-people business and as long as there’s people on this planet then there’ll be an opportunity for us to make money we just have to understand how to do that but Again you look like Affiliates you look at something like affiliate marketing this chat GPT stuff should be pretty scary again we’ll talk more about it but I think that these AI platforms are going to take a massive bite out of search engines right and if you don’t have your SEO on point from Google then you’re affiliate business you don’t have an affiliate business um so there’s all sorts of volatilities in the market I think with other business models but when it comes to Services Consulting I’m very comfortable with it and I understand the history of it and I understand the future of it and It’s something that I’ll always be involved with for sure yeah it seems like something you thought about a lot already how do you see AI changing the SEO industry dramatically I think that number one first and foremost content writing is gonna is gonna be all AI but By the end of the year I just it’s inevitable there’s chat EBT was really the first I think piece of AI software that we’ve really looked at and like not just like oh Terminator this is coming in the future but this is this is here right now and this thing is Actually really useful we’re using it to do keyword research we’re using it to write page titles we’re you we’ve already implemented into our RVA processes right um which is amazing as a business owner because it saves my team time and me and actually I have a partner same Caesar He’s a director of operations we talked about it last week that we may never have to hire another person at the agency which is pretty freaking amazing right yeah um both for us as business owners but also for our team because that means our team we can do much more like a revenue Sharing push…
